What is a distance learning course?

Distance learning and distance education:

Distance education is designed to deliver quality education and studying to students who are not able to physically attend a training organisations premises.

With a distance learning course, you can learn from wherever you live, or anywhere in the world, at any convenient time to you.

How do I enrol?

When will my learning materials arrive?

Once your order has come through it will take a few days to process your details. The training provider will then contact you directly

Can I pay in instalments?

Most courses are payable in one go. The only courses that can be paid in instalments are the HND’s.

Are your courses recognised and accredited?

Yes, all our courses are approved and accredited by the major awarding bodies in the UK

Is distance learning easy to do?

Each distance learning course is different and at different levels so complexity will vary. In general distance learning is a great way to learn becuase you’re in control of how long the course takes to complete.

What course materials will I receive?

Each home study course is different, however, all the learning materials are easy to read with a variety of ways to learn such as books, video, e-learning and tutor support.

Can anyone do the courses?

Everyone who has been to school and achieved a basic understanding of English and maths will have no problems in dealing with academic demands of the home study courses.  All course subject materials and course work will be written in easy to understand terms used in your everyday life.

In supplement to the all-inclusive course materials provided, you will also receive a study Guide and have the support of your experienced course tutor.

What’s actually in the courses?

The home learning courses cover the topics of study listed in the syllabus through detailed investigation of the subject areas. You will also be encouraged to pursue further personal development and given research to carry out. This will also help you to monitor what you have learned. The course will provide case studies but at each level you will be encouraged to use your own experiences and knowledge to fully answer the course questions.

What will I get from the course materials?

The online course resources and tasks will help you to progress and learn the essential knowledge and confidence to successfully complete and pass the tutor marked coursework. The assignments are designed to prompt you to use your knowledge, and help you to develop.

How do I send in my work?

You submit your assignments one at a time for marking. This enables your tutor to properly assess the standard and style of your work for each section, and give you feedback which will be used on your next assignment; a process of continuous improvement. On obtaining feedback and comment you will either move on to the next assignment or review or rework the one you submitted.

What happens if I fail an assignment?

This is not a problem, your assigned tutor will guide you through the changes you need to make and then you will be allowed to resubmit your work for remarking.

Is there a time limit or any deadlines?

The distance courses can be completed at your own speed typically within a 12 month period, but occasionally may take longer, or considerably quicker if you spend more time on it. There are no other deadlines to meet.

Is there a word count for my assignments?

No is the simple answer but that doesn’t mean you will not be given credit for fully explaining your answers.  The only criteria are that you fully demonstrate an understanding of the tasks set.  A comprehensive Study Guide is included with the course. Don’t forget you will have a tutor to assist you with any questions you should have.

Will the course help me get a job?

All the awarding bodies that accredit the courses on offer are highly respected organisations that impose strict standards on its centres. Employers or further education providers should accept a certificate awarded by one of these awarding bodies such as NCFE, Active IQ, CACHE, etc.

Do I need a computer to take the course?

Yes, you will need access to email and the Internet to submit assignments and do research. You will also need to word process your assignments. If you do not have Microsoft Office (or a similar package), we recommend that students download Open Office, which is free to download and use.

Is the course paper-based or online?

Some of the distance study courses are paper-based and some offer studying exclusively online, and some with both!

Is there a final exam?

You’ll be pleased to know that the majority of the distance learning courses on offer do not have a final exam!

What if I don't like the course? Can I send it back?

Yes, if you are not 100% satisfied with the distance education course and feel it is the wrong course for you, you can return it within 7 days in accordance with the booking terms and conditions on our website.
